Interleukin-10 (IL-10 or IL10), also known as cytokines synthesis inhibiting factor (CSIF) is an antiinflammatory cytokine that inhibits the synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines by T lymphocytes and the macrophages. Its presence has been demonstrated in human atherosclerotic plaques, experimental studies observed that low levels of IL-10 favors the development of atherosclerotic lesions morphologically larger and more unstable.
