Oxcarbazepine is a chiral prodrug that is metabolized to 10-Hydroxycarbazepine,known commonly as monohydrosucarbamazepine, the metabolite responsible for the therapeutic effect. Oxcarbazepine is rapidly and completely absorbed, with a peak concentrations observed at 1 to 2 hours. The half-life os oxcarbazepine is approximately 2 hours.
